Abstract

The article deals with the phenomenological branch of contemporary literary theory as represented by two scholars of Constance (H.-R. Jauss and W. Iser) as well as by Mikhail Bakhtin whose thought moves along similar lines. The article aims at elaborating principles of productive methodology in contemporary literary studies, which is endeavoured through critical discussion of the key theoretical concepts of the scholars within the broader context of Russian and Western literary academic tradition
